England Under-15s Campaign Plagued by Controversy After Uncontested Penalty

England's Under-15 World Cup campaign has been marred by further controversy following their match against Bolivia, which concluded with an uncontested penalty. The Young Lions were awarded a penalty in the 41st minute when Emmanuel Famokun of West Ham was fouled, although the contact appeared to occur outside the penalty area.

Bolivian players reacted furiously, surrounding the referee. In extraordinary scenes, a Bolivian coach entered the field to point out the location of the foul, resulting in multiple cards being issued to the Bolivian backroom staff. When another coach joined them on the pitch, a member of the England bench was heard telling the referee to "send him off as well."

In protest, the Bolivian team moved away from the penalty area, congregating by the touchline. Their goalkeeper remained by the right-hand post, allowing Famokun to roll the ball into the opposite corner unchallenged. The referee blew the final whistle immediately after the goal, which led to escalating tensions. Bolivian players sarcastically applauded the official as the England team celebrated.

The situation further deteriorated when a Bolivian substitute was sent off for attempting to confront the referee after a coach had done so. England's players intervened to protect the official, and altercations broke out between the two sets of players. FIFA officials were compelled to intervene, and reports indicate that England's players angered their opponents further by celebrating in their faces.

This incident follows another disruption earlier in the tournament. England's match against Ireland was halted due to a racism accusation. England manager Matt Thorpe withdrew his players in the 40th minute after one claimed an opponent used a racial slur. A member of the Irish staff denied the accusation, leading to a heated exchange between the benches. The England player approached his bench, and after speaking with the fourth official, Thorpe ordered his team off the pitch.

FIFA and the Football Association have been contacted for comment on the recent events.
