England midfielder Jordan Henderson sustained a significant wrist injury during celebrations following his team's World Cup last-16 victory over Mexico. Manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed the severity of the injury after the match, stating it looked "really bad."

Henderson appeared to land awkwardly after falling from advertising hoardings after England's 3-2 win and was subsequently seen leaving the pitch on a stretcher. The 36-year-old Brentford player has had limited playing time in the tournament, with only a six-minute appearance in England's Group L win against Panama.

"Jordan [Henderson] just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad," Tuchel told BBC One. "It's a quite serious injury and it doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. The doctor told me he is in hospital."

England is scheduled to play Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Henderson is now likely to join teammate Reece James on the sidelines, who is recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in the team's opening match. Additionally, Jarell Quansah is unavailable for selection after receiving a red card in the win against Mexico.
