England cricketer Brydon Carse was seen in handcuffs outside a nightclub in Derby, according to footage circulating on social media. The 31-year-old bowler, who was England's leading wicket-taker in the Ashes last winter, was with Durham teammates, including former captain Ben Stokes, at the time of the incident.
Carse was part of England's squad for their second Test against Pakistan. He was ultimately not arrested following the incident and reportedly returned to the team hotel. The reason for Carse being placed in handcuffs remains unknown.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has acknowledged the situation. "We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating," an ECB spokesperson stated. "We will provide a further update when possible."
The incident is believed to have occurred after Durham's victory over Derbyshire in the County Championship, where Carse took two wickets.
