Elton John Expresses Disappointment Over Watford's Recent Decline
The legendary musician shared his concerns on Instagram following the team's heavy defeat to Burnley.
Sir Elton John has voiced his "upset" and "disappointment" regarding the recent performance of his boyhood club, Watford FC, following their 4-0 loss to Burnley on Saturday. The iconic musician, who previously served as the club's chairman, expressed his feelings on Instagram, lamenting the team's decline.
"As a lifetime supporter of Watford FC, I am very upset and disappointed at the decline over the past few weeks," Sir Elton wrote. "I really feel for the other supporters who have to watch this."
The Hornets' defeat to bottom-of-the-table Burnley marked their fifth loss in six matches, placing them just one point above the relegation zone. The team was met with boos from the crowd at the final whistle.
Watford manager Alessio Dionisi acknowledged the team's struggles, stating his unhappiness with both halves of the match. "The problem now is the attitude, the team, the coach, everyone. Not one player or one striker," Dionisi said. "One month ago, it was different. Probably it's better to say only one thing: I'm sorry. I'm sorry for this result; I'm sorry for this match."
Dionisi emphasized the need for collective effort, noting the absence of a standout individual player within the current squad. "To provide a good result, it's better to play with mentality, to play together, not to play for one player, because in this team, there isn't [one standout player]," he added.
Sir Elton, who oversaw Watford's most successful period in its history, has a long-standing connection with the club, having led it through its promotion to the top flight in the 1970s and its subsequent years in the First Division.
