Scotland's Eilish McColgan will not defend her Commonwealth Games 10,000m title at Glasgow 2026 after failing to recover sufficiently from a foot fracture. McColgan announced her withdrawal, stating that she has run out of time to be competition-ready.
"After almost 10 weeks out, it probably won't come as a huge surprise," McColgan said in a statement. "The good news is I'm back running. The bad news is I've simply run out of time to get myself, and my toe, back into spikes."
McColgan, who had expressed cautious optimism about racing soon, explained that despite having the underlying fitness, the recent return to outdoor running meant the clock was against her. She had started the year with strong form but the injury significantly impacted her preparation.
Despite her absence from competing, McColgan confirmed she will be in Glasgow throughout the week to support Team Scotland and wish her teammates the best of luck at the Games.
