Ed Sheeran believes England is on track to win the World Cup, following a private performance for the national squad at their training base in Kansas City.
The team's morale was boosted by the visit from Sheeran ahead of their quarter-final match against Norway in Miami. This engagement continues a tradition that began in 2021, when captain Harry Kane invited the singer to join the team.
"In 2021, Harry got me down for the camp and then I met everyone, and I've just been to every one since," Sheeran explained on the YouTube show Extra Time. "It's been great, it's been a nice little tradition."
Sheeran performed an acoustic rendition of "Castle On The Hill" by the pool at England's Inn at Meadowbrook hotel after the team's final group stage match against Panama. He noted that the connection with the squad has grown since his initial performance.
England secured a 3-2 victory against adversity in their previous match at the Estadio Azteca. They advanced to the quarter-finals after a comeback win in the round of 32 against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Looking ahead, Sheeran expressed confidence in England's chances, predicting a final matchup between England and France. "I think when you get to the final anyone can win and I think it will be us," he stated.
