Ecuador’s head coach, Sebastián Beccacece, celebrated a dramatic World Cup advancement by leaping into the stands at MetLife Stadium to join his family. The jubilant scene unfolded on Thursday after Gonzalo Plata scored in the 77th minute, securing a 2-1 victory against Germany and a spot in the tournament's Round of 32.

The win was crucial for Ecuador, which had faced a precarious path to the knockout stage following a loss to Ivory Coast and a draw with Curaçao. The victory over Germany, the top team in their group, ensured their progression.

Security personnel had to guide Beccacece back to the sideline to complete the match. Following the final whistle, he shared his elation with his coaching staff. This marks Ecuador's first appearance in the knockout stage since 2006.

"We came to life to feel," Beccacece stated through an interpreter after the game. "Sometimes we feel the pain of defeat, but sometimes also the satisfaction of a victory. What is important is to strike a balance. This will not change my life. It will not. But we must indulge ourselves in this joy."

Ecuador is set to face either Mexico or the winner of Group L in its next match. Beccacece reflected on the broader significance of the moment, emphasizing the importance of shared experiences.

"It’s all about understanding that life brings about these moments that you can share with your family, with your man, with your mom, with your sister, with your friends," he said. "My dad is missing. He’s watching us from above. But, anyway, I think we need to celebrate these moments."

He also expressed thoughts for the Ecuadorian people, stating, "I’m thinking of the Ecuadorian people, 19 million people celebrating, hugging each other, having a beer and celebrating this historical victory."
