Philadelphia Eagles outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard has been placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to a pec strain suffered during an offseason workout. The team, however, does not anticipate the injury to be a long-term issue.

"One of the things we know about Greenard is he’s going to be ready to play," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman stated, according to ESPN. "Training camp is so important, practice is so important, but when you have a guy that prepares the way he does, who has the experience in the NFL the way he does, you know he’s going to be ready to play when we start the season."

The Eagles acquired Greenard in a trade with the Vikings during the 2026 NFL Draft and subsequently agreed to a four-year, $98 million contract extension with $50 million guaranteed. Philadelphia sent the No. 98 overall pick in 2026 and a 2027 third-round selection to acquire the linebacker, who is expected to fill the void left by Jaelan Phillips. Phillips was traded to the Eagles mid-season in 2025 and later signed a four-year, $120 million contract with the Carolina Panthers.

Greenard was anticipated to be a key contributor to a linebacker group that also includes Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith Jr., and AJ Epenesa. He began his NFL career with the Houston Texans, who drafted him 90th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. After his rookie contract expired in 2024, Greenard signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Vikings, earning a Pro Bowl selection in his first season with the team.

His performance in 2025 saw a decline, with 38 tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble in 12 games. This downturn was likely influenced by a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery.
