Donovan Dijak Believes Tag Team Wrestling is a 'Lost Art' Amidst MLW Growth
Major League Wrestling star Donovan Dijak discusses the nuances of tag team wrestling, his partnership with Josh Bishop, and the promotion's recent expansion.
Major League Wrestling (MLW) star Donovan Dijak, a prominent figure in the tag team division as part of The Skyscrapers with Josh Bishop, believes that the art of tag team wrestling is often overlooked in the modern professional wrestling landscape. Dijak, who stands at 6-foot-7 and weighs 270 pounds, acknowledged that his physique might suggest a singles career, but he has found significant success and fulfillment in tag team competition.
Dijak and Bishop are slated for a high-profile tag team match against MLW World Heavyweight Champion Killer Kross and Matt Riddle. Dijak expressed optimism about his team's prospects, stating, "I'm banking on them not being able to coexist." He also praised Bishop's potential and their partnership, adding, "He has all the potential in the world. He's just an incredible dude. Big, strong, exactly what you want in a tag team partner, especially in a tag team called The Skyscrapers. I'm very excited for his future."
He further elaborated on the intricacies of tag team wrestling, suggesting that many competitors, himself included in earlier stages of his career, become too focused on showcasing individual singles prowess. "Once you allow yourself to tell the story of tag team professional wrestling... that proves how valuable of a commodity or an asset you are," Dijak explained. He believes that embracing the unique storytelling potential of tag team matches offers fans a different and engaging experience compared to the prevalence of singles matches on most wrestling cards.
Dijak has a history of success in MLW's tag team division, having held the tag team titles with both Bishop Dyer and Josh Bishop for nearly a year before losing them to The Good Brothers. He also credited Tommaso Ciampa with teaching him the psychology of tag team matches.
Regarding MLW's recent growth, which includes distribution deals with Tubi and Veeps for its show "Fusion," Dijak cited the company's upward trajectory as a key reason for his involvement. "I love being part of that growth. That's exactly why I wanted to be part of MLW in the first place was because I could see the upward trajectory," he said. He highlighted the company's consistent progress, from securing new distribution channels to maintaining sold-out live events for approximately three years, as indicators of its success and his desire to contribute to its continued ascent.
