The Miami Dolphins have signed linebacker Jordyn Brooks to a three-year, $51.3 million contract extension, solidifying a crucial piece of their defense. The deal, reported Wednesday, makes Brooks one of the NFL's top-paid inside linebackers in terms of total value and average annual earnings.
Brooks, 28, joins running back De’Von Achane and center Aaron Brewer as key players to receive extensions this offseason. Achane signed a four-year deal in May, and Brewer inked a three-year contract in June. New general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan identified these three players as "pillars" for the Dolphins in late March, and their recent contract agreements ensure their presence with the team for the foreseeable future.
Brooks attended the Dolphins' spring practices while negotiations for his contract were ongoing. "For me, I know I need to get better as a player so that’s why I show up," Brooks said in May. "And then obviously, I never want to give the wrong message to the team or to my teammates. I play with these guys, go to battle with them, and I want them to know that I’m here no matter what, playing the game for the right reasons, and so I show up to work because that’s what’s required of me."
Brooks arrived in Miami on a three-year contract in 2024, following his first four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. In the last two seasons, he has recorded more tackles than any other player in the league, with 326. He led the NFL in combined tackles (183) and solo tackles (99) last year, earning him his first career All-Pro first-team selection. Brooks was also a team captain and received the franchise's Don Shula Leadership Award in the previous season.
The Dolphins are preparing for the upcoming season under new head coach Jeff Hafley, aiming to improve on their 7-10 record from the past year.
