Tyrhys Dolan is prepared to face one of the most significant challenges of his career as his Espanyol side prepares to play Real Madrid. Dolan, who spent five years at Blackburn Rovers before moving to Spain last summer, is entering his second season with Espanyol.
Dolan described his initial year in Spain as a personal challenge, requiring him to adapt to a new culture, learn a new language, and become more self-reliant away from his family and friends. He believes this period has significantly matured him both on and off the pitch.
On the field, Dolan credits the high standard of Spain's La Liga with accelerating his development. He noted substantial improvements in his decision-making, as well as his crossing ability and capacity to provide various types of assists. "I've learned and added so many tools to my trade since making the move to Espanyol," he stated.
Having made over 30 appearances last season, Dolan feels a shift in the team's expectations and his role within it. "I feel much more responsibility within the team this year," he said. "I feel like I am one of the players who is going to get it done."
Dolan reflected on the difference between his first season and the current one. "When you join, everything is new to you and you don't really know how to handle it. You just kind of roll with it," he explained. "But now I know exactly what I'm doing heading into this season. I've got my home here, I've got my solid fanbase, I've got team-mates that are now friends for me. It's not just strangers that you're playing with at the start."
