Dodgers Secure Game 1 Victory Over Braves in NLDS Opener

The Los Angeles Dodgers opened their pursuit of a third straight World Series title with a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium. Starting pitcher Tarik Skubal was a key factor, delivering a strong performance on the mound.

Skubal, a two-time American League Cy Young winner, pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. His outing set the tone for the Dodgers, who aim to build on their postseason success.

The game's scoring began in the fourth inning when Teoscar Hernández hit a two-run home run off Braves pitcher Victor Mederos, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. The blast traveled 431 feet into the left-field bleachers.

Atlanta responded in the top of the sixth inning when Sean Murphy hit a solo home run, cutting the Dodgers' lead to 2-1. However, the Dodgers quickly extended their advantage in the bottom of the sixth. Kyle Tucker hit a two-run home run, followed by a solo shot from Max Muncy, making the score 5-1.

Braves designated hitter Ronald Acuña Jr. and second baseman Ozzie Albies combined for a two-run home run in the top of the ninth, narrowing the deficit to 5-3. Despite the late surge by Atlanta, Dodgers closer Evan Phillips secured the final out, inducing a ground ball from Austin Riley to end the game.

For the Braves, the bullpen game strategy proved challenging after their three-game Wild Card Series. Starter Dylan Dodd pitched three scoreless innings, but the relief efforts struggled against the Dodgers' offense. The Braves will look to even the series in Game 2.
