The Dodgers had already secured their 14th consecutive postseason appearance, a streak that ties the record set by the Atlanta Braves from 1991 to 2005. Entering Thursday's game, Los Angeles held a 9 1/2-game lead over the second-place San Diego Padres and possessed the second-best record in the National League. Their 93-60 record positions them to potentially overtake the Milwaukee Brewers for the top seed in the NL.
Kyle Tucker was instrumental in Thursday's victory, recording four hits, including a first-inning home run. He also contributed three RBIs with a single and two doubles. Tucker's home run, his 16th of the season, came off Cincinnati pitcher Brady Singer, who gave up seven runs on nine hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Freddie Freeman's sacrifice fly and Tucker's RBI double in the second inning extended the Dodgers' lead. Max Muncy added a two-run double and Josue De Paula hit an RBI single in the fourth, contributing to a 7-0 advantage. Dodgers' left-hander Justin Wrobleski, making his 22nd start of the season, pitched three scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner, striking out three.
Wrobleski and Blake Treinen combined to retire the first 11 batters they faced before Sal Stewart hit his 32nd home run. Landon Knack, who earned his first MLB win since May 31 of last year, allowed four hits over four scoreless innings. Miguel Rojas hit a ninth-inning home run off Brandon Williamson.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that reliever Edwin Diaz, who has been sidelined with neck inflammation, has completed his minor league injury rehabilitation assignment and is expected to be activated this weekend.
