The Los Angeles Dodgers were denied a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees on Sunday night as second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, securing a 2-1 victory for the Yankees.

The decisive moment came in the penultimate inning of a closely contested doubleheader finale, with the score tied. Chisholm connected with a low fastball from Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips, sending it over the fence to give the Yankees the win.

Despite the loss, the Dodgers still secured a series victory in the Bronx and maintained the majors' best record at 63-37, extending their division lead. The series began with the Dodgers winning the first two games.

The Yankees had multiple opportunities to build a lead earlier in the game but struggled to capitalize. In the fourth inning, they had runners on second and third with one out but failed to score. Later, in the fifth, they loaded the bases with no outs against Jack Dreyer, only for Brock Stewart to enter the game and limit the damage.

The Dodgers themselves had a chance to take the lead in the eighth. After Tommy Edman hit a game-tying pinch-hit home run for the Dodgers, they managed to get two runners on with one out. However, Shohei Ohtani struck out and Andy Pages popped out against Yankees closer David Bednar, setting the stage for Chisholm's heroics.

For the Dodgers, the game served as a test of their bullpen depth, which performed adequately despite the loss. This could be a crucial factor as the team navigates Shohei Ohtani's continued absence from the starting rotation.

On the offensive side, rookie catcher Eliezer Alfonzo recorded his first career MLB hit in the third inning, a line drive into center field. This hit created an early scoring opportunity for the Dodgers, with Ohtani legging out an infield single behind him, but the inning ended without further runs.

However, Mookie Betts continued to struggle at the plate. After going hitless in four at-bats on Sunday, Betts is now 4-for-38 over his last 11 games. His season batting average has fallen to .226.

The Dodgers will continue their road trip with a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies starting Monday. Emmet Sheehan is scheduled to start for the Dodgers against Phillies ace Cristopher Sánchez.
