Novak Djokovic secured his place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals after defeating qualifier Roman Safiullin in a challenging four-set match. The victory marked Djokovic's 106th win at the tournament, surpassing Roger Federer for the men's all-time record on the grass courts of SW19.

Despite securing the win, Djokovic exhibited moments of physical struggle throughout the match. He appeared creaky at times, grunting and grimacing, leading to concerns about his stamina in his pursuit of a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title. Safiullin, ranked 132nd in the world, proved to be an aggressive opponent, pushing Djokovic in a match that lasted three-and-a-half hours with a final score of 7-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

The first set was particularly hard-fought, lasting 62 minutes and culminating in a tiebreak. Djokovic faced early pressure, trailing 5-2, and showed signs of distraction from various factors including the sun and camera placement. However, he managed to save two set points and eventually clinched the set. His 11-year-old son, Stefan, was observed playing cards with a friend in the family box, a reaction that suggested a familiarity with his father's past comebacks.

Safiullin continued to battle, even requesting a physio for a hip problem. In the third set, he broke Djokovic's serve to take a 4-2 lead. Djokovic responded by smashing a ball in anger, having already received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct. Safiullin capitalized on this momentum to win the third set, forcing Djokovic into a fourth.

Djokovic acknowledged that his body finds it challenging to cope with longer matches at his age, not just during play but also in recovery. He focused on efficiency in the fourth set, which he won 6-3 with a precise volley. Djokovic stated that he does not often feel outmatched from the back of the court, implying this was one of those days where he wanted to avoid lengthy rallies.

Djokovic will face either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Alejandro Davidovich in his 17th Wimbledon quarter-final. The Serbian player's ability to manage his physical condition will be a key factor as he continues his quest for another Grand Slam title.
