Djokovic Returns to Court with China Open Victory

Novak Djokovic marked his return to professional tennis with a hard-fought victory over Nuno Borges at the China Open, his first match since competing at Wimbledon in July. The Serbian veteran prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) in his initial appearance at the Beijing tournament since 2015, extending his undefeated streak in the event to 30 consecutive wins.

Djokovic, who has previously stated he has been managing a health condition that affects him in hot and humid environments, appeared to struggle at times during the match. In the second set, he utilized his racquet for back stretches between games and required a medical timeout for treatment on his right shoulder. Despite these challenges, he battled through the one-hour, 50-minute contest.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is aiming to win the China Open for a record seventh time. He is scheduled to face Chinese wildcard Bu Yunchaokete in the second round.

In the women's draw, Great Britain's Katie Boulter also advanced to the second round, defeating Japan's Mai Hontama in straight sets. Boulter won 6-3, 6-4 and is set to play against Czech seventh seed Karolina Muchova next.
