Novak Djokovic's campaign at the US Open concluded with a first-round defeat, a significant early exit that has drawn attention to the player's physical condition and prompted reflections on his career trajectory.

Mariano Navone defeated Djokovic in a five-set match, 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, which lasted four hours and 36 minutes. This marked Djokovic's earliest Grand Slam first-round elimination in two decades.

Djokovic shared that he has been contending with physical issues for much of the current year. "Vomiting, throwing up, a serious issue there," he described, noting that his "whole body starts to collapse, basically cramping and pain." He specifically mentioned his back and shoulder giving out towards the end of the match.

Despite the physical challenges, Djokovic expressed gratitude for the crowd's support during the match. "When it comes to the match itself and overall feeling of how I felt with body and playing, it was really not enjoyable," he stated. "But from the perspective of the crowd and support, it was incredible... The love and appreciation they gave me in the end was really touched my heart."

The tournament's outcome has brought renewed focus to a warning issued by Andre Agassi, Djokovic's former coach, in a recent Amazon Prime Video documentary, 'Novak Djokovic: The Wolf In Winter.' Agassi had commented on the eventual end of Djokovic's career, stating, "The end, when it does come, always comes fast."

Djokovic's performance in New York follows a third-round exit at the French Open earlier this year. Last year, he reached the semifinals of all four Grand Slams, and he made it to the Australian Open final in January.

Agassi, reflecting on Djokovic's accomplishments, has maintained that the 24-time Grand Slam champion is unparalleled in the sport. "Nobody can touch what he's accomplished. It is as clear as it gets: he's the best of all time," Agassi said. "I don't feel like he's been appreciated nearly as much as he's worthy of for what he's brought to the game of tennis."
