Nineteen-year-old winger Yan Diomande is poised to join Real Madrid in a move that could set multiple transfer records. The Spanish giants are understood to be paying over £100 million for the prospect, which would represent a record sale for his current club, RB Leipzig, and a record signing for Real Madrid.

Diomande's transfer also positions him as the most expensive African player in history. His ascent has been remarkably swift; less than 18 months ago, he was largely unknown, having previously played for the Florida-based DME Academy. After trials with several European clubs, including Chelsea and Olympiacos, he was signed by Spanish side Leganes.

Within a few months and 10 appearances in La Liga, Diomande's market value significantly increased, leading to his transfer to RB Leipzig for 20 million euros. At Leipzig, he quickly emerged as a standout player in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists in his first full season. Despite Leipzig's initial intention to retain him for another year to further boost his value, strong interest from clubs like Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and ultimately Real Madrid compelled the German club to agree to a deal.

Diomande, who also represented Ivory Coast at the World Cup, is described as a hyper-athletic and creative winger, already considered among Europe's top dribblers. While he retains some rawness, his development over the past year has been significant, and he is expected to continue his progression at Real Madrid. His ability to play on both wings and his understanding with teammates have been noted as key strengths.
