Liverpool has reportedly faced a setback in their pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, as the 19-year-old is said to prefer a move to Paris Saint-Germain. Diomande has emerged as one of Europe's most sought-after players following a breakout season in Germany, where he recorded 13 goals and 10 assists.
Last week, Liverpool indicated their willingness to spend up to €100 million (£86 million) on the Ivory Coast international, but their bid was rejected by Leipzig. Reports from France now suggest that Diomande is enticed by PSG's project and the prospect of playing under manager Luis Enrique, viewing a move to Paris as beneficial for his chances of winning trophies and competing for the Ballon d'Or.
However, Diomande's departure from Leipzig this summer is not guaranteed. The German club values the player at approximately €130 million (£112 million) and is also attempting to negotiate a new contract, despite his current deal extending until 2030. Leipzig has publicly stated that Diomande is not for sale, although there is an internal acknowledgment that they may be compelled to sell him.
Diomande's potential move to PSG could indirectly benefit Liverpool in their pursuit of other players. Should Diomande join the French club, it might push PSG winger Bradley Barcola further down the pecking order, potentially increasing the likelihood of his availability. Liverpool has previously been linked with Barcola.
Diomande is currently representing Ivory Coast at the World Cup, where he made an impression during the group stage matches. He is expected to play a significant role in their upcoming match against Norway.
