St. Anthony's quarterback Anthony Diieso is entering his junior season with aspirations of leading the Friars to a state championship. After starting as a sophomore, Diieso has dedicated his summer to intensive preparation, aiming to build on his experience and overcome last season's semifinal playoff exit.

"Last year was definitely a little nerve-wracking, but now I’m all settled in — been putting in all the hard work," Diieso told The Post. "I think it’s going to be a fun one this year."

Diieso demonstrated his readiness by winning a quarterback challenge hosted by the Suffolk County chapter of the National Football Foundation in July. The competition exposed him to various play styles and opponents, fueling his anticipation for the upcoming training camp.

"It was a lot of the top kids on Long Island," Diieso said. "You see new faces, you see new play styles, and you have to compete."

This season, Diieso aims to expand his leadership role and guide the team past the stage where they were eliminated last year by Westchester’s Iona Prep in the Catholic League playoffs. He has been working closely with his receivers to refine their connection and ensure preparedness.

"My receivers and I, we’re all getting extra work in, making sure we’re prepared for this upcoming season," Diieso said. Melville, NY – Sophomore varsity quarterback Anthony Diieso runs a drill with running back Christian Bordeaux.

The Friars' path to redemption includes challenging out-of-league matchups against New Jersey’s Red Bank Catholic and St. Peter’s Prep. Diieso views these games as crucial tests of the team's mettle.

"I always love testing myself. Those games, they will really see what we’re made of. It’s a high-level competition, and I think it will be fun games."

He expressed his ultimate goal: "This season is everything. I want to win a state championship with my team, celebrating on the field."
