Dick's Sporting Goods is set to enter the sports card market by launching Collectors Clubhouse sections within its House of Sports retail locations, according to The Athletic.
These specialized areas will offer more than just standard card packs. Dick's plans to acquire and feature sought-after collectible cards to attract serious collectors. Among its initial acquisitions is a Paul Skenes 2024 Topps Chrome Update MLB Debut Patch autographed rookie card, which the company purchased for $1.11 million.
The company also had buyers actively purchasing collectible cards from attendees at the National Sports Collectors Convention.
The House of Sports stores are designed as immersive athletic experiences, featuring amenities such as batting cages, golf simulators, and rock climbing walls. The addition of the Collectors Clubhouse is intended to integrate the burgeoning sports card and collectibles market into these existing entertainment hubs.
