Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was struck in the head by a line drive during Sunday's game against the Houston Astros, but initial assessments indicate he avoided a serious injury and could be back in the lineup as soon as Monday.

The incident occurred in the top of the third inning while Perdomo was running the bases. A line drive hit by Ketel Marte at 93 mph struck Perdomo, who fell to the ground holding his head. Trainers and coaches immediately attended to him.

Perdomo was declared out because he could not advance to second base due to the injury. The Diamondbacks went on to win the game 3-2. Manager Tony Lovullo stated that Perdomo is not in concussion protocol and is in observation. The team is classifying the injury as a head contusion, with Lovullo expressing optimism that the team "dodged a bullet."

Perdomo, who has been a key player for the Diamondbacks over the past few years, has posted a .252 batting average this season. His performance last year included a seven WAR and a career-high 100 RBIs. The Diamondbacks currently hold a half-game lead over the San Diego Padres for the final wild-card spot in the National League West. The team is scheduled to begin a three-game series in Kansas City on Monday.
