Arizona Diamondbacks General Manager Mike Hazen confirmed Wednesday that the team is still seeking answers regarding the ongoing absence of star second baseman Ketel Marte. Speaking on "Arizona Sports 98.7's Wolf & Luke Show," Hazen stated he was scheduled to meet with Marte on Thursday, but offered few specifics about the situation.

"I don’t have a lot of details. I know everybody is itching for details. I don’t have a lot that I can really share at this point in time," Hazen said. "He’s obviously flying back here for an MRI tomorrow."

Hazen indicated the team is committed to supporting Marte. "We are fully committed to helping in any way that we can figure out how this gets better and moves forward. We have been that way since day one, and we always have been."

When asked if Marte might miss the remainder of the 2026 season, Hazen acknowledged that "there’s a lot of variables" but expressed hope for his return to the field.

Marte’s absence began on Monday when he did not appear for the Diamondbacks’ game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, despite having traveled with the team from Atlanta. Following his no-show, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo appeared visibly emotional during his postgame press conference, stating, "I just love for him and care for him, he’ll be OK."

The team subsequently placed Marte on the restricted list, a designation for players absent from the team without pay or explanation. ESPN had previously reported that Marte was dealing with a "personal situation."

This is the second consecutive season Marte has been placed on the restricted list. In 2025, he returned to the Dominican Republic and missed three games.

On Tuesday, the Diamondbacks arranged for Marte to return to Arizona to undergo an MRI on his knee. "Look, players go through things. It’s a long season. Things happen," Hazen commented. "We deal with stuff that you never hear about. There’s no playbook. There’s no blueprint."
