Derek Chisora, 42, Rejects Retirement, Plans December Fight
Veteran heavyweight boxer announces intentions to return to the ring in December, contradicting earlier retirement speculation.
Veteran heavyweight boxer Derek Chisora, 42, has stated he is not retiring and plans to compete again in December. His previous bout in April against Deontay Wilder was widely promoted as his 50th and final professional fight.
Chisora confirmed his intention to fight at a news conference on Tuesday, naming Murat Gassiev as his potential opponent. The fight is being considered for either London or Manchester. "We're going to put two belts on the line, I believe, the IBA and the one Gassiev holds," Chisora said.
He also commented on the IBA's operations, suggesting there is more to the organization than meets the eye. "What people have to understand is that what the IBA does is unbelievable," Chisora stated. "I believe this goes deeper than that we're doing here right now. I believe it's going to get better and better. In December we'll be fighting."
Murat Gassiev currently holds the WBA 'super' heavyweight world championship. However, his title status has been subject to reports suggesting Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua might compete for his world title in their upcoming match scheduled for December 11. Gassiev himself expressed uncertainty on Tuesday regarding his continued status as the WBA's world champion.
