Veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel believes he has at least three to four more productive years remaining in the NFL. Samuel, a key player for the San Francisco 49ers and most recently the Washington Commanders, is currently navigating the free agency period.
"I still feel like I got a lot, at least like three, four good years left," Samuel said in a video posted to his YouTube page. "It's kind of been tough, not even going to lie to you. All the free agency stuff going on, waking up in the morning, looking at your phone, seeing if your agent hit you and was like, 'This team is interested,' or things along those lines. And it's been kind of like a roller coaster."
Samuel, who was an All-Pro in 2021, spent six seasons with the 49ers before being traded to Washington. In his 2023 season with the Commanders, Samuel recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns, leading the team in all three categories. He also added 75 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Despite the uncertainty of free agency and the ups and downs of recent seasons, Samuel expressed his continued commitment to the game. "With me and how I play this game, it's just like, no matter what I'm going through, no matter what I'm doing, if I'm able to perform, I'm going to go out there and put it on the line for my team."
He indicated that he is not contemplating retirement and is prepared for the right opportunity. "Some people ask like, 'Are you ready to hang it up?' And I'm like, nah, everything's got timing," Samuel stated. "So, I promise you, when the time comes, it's going to come. And I'm overly prepared, overly ready for the moment. And whenever that right opportunity shows up, we here first, man. I'm ready to rock out."
Since his 2021 All-Pro season, where he led the NFL with 18.2 yards per reception and amassed 365 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns, Samuel has averaged 59.8 receptions for 730.3 yards and 4.3 touchdowns per season from 2022-2025. He also averaged 167.0 rushing yards annually over that span.
