Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm drew significant attention from spectators at the LIV Golf New York tournament held at Trump National Bedminster. On Saturday, the third day of the event, crowds gathered to watch the golfers, with many fans pointing to DeChambeau and Rahm as the "big names" they came to see.
Fans noted that large crowds consistently followed DeChambeau, with Christian Pellegrino telling The Post that DeChambeau is "a pretty big draw." Kristian Johnson echoed this sentiment, calling Rahm and DeChambeau "the big names that I’d love to come out and see." Golf fan Tate Stevens attributed their popularity partly to their current standing as first and second in the LIV Golf player standings. Stevens also highlighted DeChambeau's significant presence on YouTube, which he believes attracts new and younger fans to golf.
DeChambeau and Rahm collectively hold four major titles, including Rahm's 2023 Masters victory and DeChambeau's two U.S. Open wins. Their performance and visibility are seen as crucial to LIV Golf, whose future was uncertain after the Saudi Public Investment Fund withdrew its financial backing. However, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil recently secured investments to ensure the league's operation beyond 2026.
DeChambeau expressed confidence in LIV Golf's future, stating he was "100 percent" sure of it following the investment news. He also conveyed a desire to play in PGA Tour events. Rahm, who has a contract with LIV beyond the current year, has been reserved about his future commitments.
Despite off-the-course financial discussions, fans at the event expressed little concern. Harold Varner III defended LIV Golf's impact, calling it "one of the greatest things that’s ever happened to me" and encouraging a focus on opportunity rather than negative speculation. He emphasized that golf, while important to him, is not the most critical issue in life.
President Donald Trump made a brief appearance on Saturday, traveling between the 16th tee box and 15th green in a golf cart on his way back to the clubhouse. He had arrived at Bedminster on Friday evening.
