DeAndre Hopkins, a veteran NFL wide receiver, is joining the Georgia Tech coaching staff as an assistant wide receivers coach, according to multiple reports. The move comes after Hopkins spent time with the New England Patriots during their training camp, exploring a potential future in coaching.

Hopkins reportedly visited the Georgia Tech campus this week, reuniting with offensive coordinator George Godsey. Godsey previously coached Hopkins with the Houston Texans from 2015 to 2016 and as the Baltimore Ravens tight ends coach in 2025.

During his college career, Hopkins played for Clemson, a rival of Georgia Tech in the ACC. He faced the Yellow Jackets twice as a Tiger, including a standout performance in 2012 where he recorded 173 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Hopkins' stint with the Patriots involved observing and assisting the offensive coaching staff and personnel teams, as described by coach Mike Vrabel. Vrabel noted Hopkins' deep love for football and his interest in exploring post-playing career opportunities.

Despite exploring coaching, Hopkins has indicated he still believes he has playing ability left. He stated in late June that he was not rushing into a contract for the 2026 season but felt capable of outperforming opponents one-on-one. He described himself as a "utility guy" who could contribute on third downs for a contending team.

Last season, Hopkins played in all 17 games for the Baltimore Ravens, recording a career-low 22 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns. If his coaching role at Georgia Tech marks the end of his playing career, he would conclude his NFL tenure with 1,006 receptions for 13,295 yards, and 85 touchdowns over 195 games across 13 seasons.
