Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper remains steadfast in his belief that quarterback Bryce Young possesses the potential to lead the franchise to multiple Super Bowl victories. Tepper, who traded up to select Young with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, reiterated his optimism in a recent news conference.

"I think he has a lot of talent, and with the right weapons and the right situation, yeah," Tepper said. Young, entering his fourth season, is currently under contract through 2027 after the team exercised his fifth-year option. Tepper declined to comment on whether a long-term contract extension has been offered.

Despite a 14-30 record as the team's starting quarterback, Tepper highlighted Young's progress during his third season, which saw the Panthers win the NFC South and end a seven-year playoff drought before a first-round loss to the Los Angeles Rams. In that playoff game, Young threw for 264 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a rushing touchdown. His performance contributed to his statistical bests that season, surpassing 3,000 passing yards with 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Tepper noted Young's ability to perform under pressure, citing his 12 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime over the past three seasons. However, Tepper also expressed a desire for faster starts from both Young and the team, acknowledging a history of slow openings to seasons. Young is 0-3 in Week 1 games, with the Panthers being outscored significantly in those contests. Young stated that starting fast has been a point of emphasis for the team.

Tepper also indicated that the Panthers have made significant additions to their offensive roster, aiming to provide Young with more playmakers. The team has added veteran tight end Darren Waller and has promising young talent like wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who earned AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. The additions of Jalen Coker as a potential No. 2 receiver and the hope that first-round draft pick Xavier Legette and running back Jonathon Brooks can contribute are also seen as positive developments. Tepper pointed to the team's 3-1 preseason record as an indicator of improved depth and readiness for the upcoming season, stating, "We are more of a playoff team this year than we were last year. I think the pieces are there and we have everything we need."
