Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd is scheduled for season-ending surgery on her right knee, the team announced Wednesday. Fudd, the No. 1 overall pick in the most recent draft, will undergo arthroscopic surgery next week in Connecticut, where she played collegiately for UConn.
Fudd has been sidelined for the past five games due to knee soreness. She was eased into the lineup as a rookie, coming off the bench for the first six games before becoming a full-time starter. She recorded a season-high 26 points in a win against Seattle in June and averaged 13.1 points over 30 games played.
The team opted to hold Fudd out of an Aug. 7 game against Golden State "out of an abundance of caution" after she went through warmups, as the soreness persisted. The Wings are currently 3-8 since a six-game winning streak, but the team remains in a favorable position to make the playoffs for the first time since 2023.
Fudd and teammate Paige Bueckers, last year's No. 1 overall pick and the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, played together at UConn, winning the national championship in 2025.
The Wings are set to play Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on Thursday night at the home of the Dallas Mavericks.
