Team England cyclist Matt Richardson's hopes of competing in the upcoming Commonwealth Games were dashed after a collision during a Keirin World Series event in Japan. The incident occurred when rival Kento Suzuki fell into Richardson while speeding towards the racing line.
The crash prematurely ended the races for both riders. Richardson, who switched his nationality from Australian to English two years prior with the aim of competing in Glasgow, was later taken from the outdoor velodrome in an ambulance. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed, but the incident has concluded his participation in the Commonwealth Games.
