Cristiano Ronaldo Scores After Missile Alert Delays AFC Champions League Match

Cristiano Ronaldo scored as Al-Nassr defeated Uzbekistan's Neftchi Fergana 3-1 in an AFC Champions League match that was delayed by an hour due to a missile alert in Riyadh. The Saudi Pro League champions' win marked their first Group B victory.

Match Disruption

The match's kickoff was postponed 15 minutes prior to its scheduled start following a safety warning issued by Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence. Riyadh, the capital city, has been a target for missiles launched from Yemen-based Houthis. Explosions were heard in the capital on Monday night, and the Saudi-led military coalition confirmed that a ballistic missile had been intercepted and destroyed. These regional conflicts have the potential to impact future sporting events, including Formula 1 races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Game Progression

Once play commenced, Al-Nassr took the lead in the 33rd minute through Angelo. Ronaldo extended their advantage before halftime, scoring Al-Nassr's second goal. Neftchi Fergana managed to pull one goal back, but their efforts were hampered when they were reduced to 10 players in the 65th minute. An own goal 13 minutes later sealed the victory for the hosts.

Ronaldo's goal followed his return to club football last Friday, where he also scored after leaving the Portugal national team camp due to frustration over limited playing time during the Nations League break.
