Cowboys Players Fined Over $33,000 for Game Penalties

Three Dallas Cowboys players have been fined by the NFL for penalties committed during the team's season-opening defeat to the New York Giants. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, and running back Javonte Williams incurred fines totaling $33,409, as detailed in the NFL's weekly accountability report.

Overshown was fined $9,527 for unnecessary roughness following a late hit on Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart in the first quarter. The penalty contributed to a Giants touchdown drive. Ezeiruaku received an $11,941 fine for grabbing a Giants player's facemask late in the fourth quarter, a penalty that helped New York run down the clock and secure their 28-20 victory.

Williams was also fined $11,941 for taunting Giants safety Tyler Nubin after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter. This unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was enforced on the subsequent extra-point attempt, which Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey missed from 48 yards, leaving the Cowboys trailing by eight points.

Following the game, Williams stated, "I don’t know why I did it. It’s just out of character. You don’t got to worry about that no more. The damage is already done. It’s my fault. I’m better than that. I’m a pro."

The Cowboys committed nine penalties in the game, while the Giants were assessed 11, resulting in a combined 20 penalties between the two NFC East rivals.
