Conor McGregor has described his knee injury sustained during UFC 329 as "hell" after a devastating incident cut his return fight short.
On Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, McGregor slipped on his first official kick attempt of the bout against Max Holloway, appearing to injure his right leg. The fight concluded just 69 seconds after it began.
"My head gasket is gone. Destroyed," McGregor wrote in a post on X early Sunday morning. "I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere."
McGregor, 37, left T-Mobile Arena barefoot shortly after the fight and declined a post-bout interview with Paramount Plus.
UFC President and CEO Dana White stated that the organization suspects McGregor tore his ACL. McGregor's social media post corroborated reports that the injury was not pre-existing, contrary to some online speculation and viral clips. "If there was a preexisting injury somebody would have noticed," White told reporters.
The bout marked McGregor's first UFC fight since 2021. It is currently unclear when he will be able to return to competition following this injury.
