Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard will miss approximately four months following surgery on his left shoulder, the team announced Wednesday. The injury is expected to keep him out of the lineup until November, impacting the team's start to the upcoming NHL season.

Bedard sustained the injury last week while training in Vancouver. Video circulating at the time showed him falling during a drill and appearing to be in discomfort as he left the ice. Subsequent medical evaluation led to the surgery, with the Blackhawks confirming he is expected to make a full recovery.

This setback comes after a rookie season in 2024-25 where Bedard also dealt with an injury to his right shoulder and suffered a broken jaw. Throughout his career, when healthy, he has averaged close to a point per game. The Blackhawks will need his contribution as they navigate a competitive Central Division and aim to contend for a playoff spot.

Bedard, the franchise centerpiece and former first-overall pick, will be absent for the initial part of the season as the Blackhawks face division rivals such as the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, and Minnesota Wild. The team will need to maintain pace in the standings during his absence to avoid starting the season in a significant hole.
