Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard has publicly voiced his desire for the team to re-sign veteran forward Patrick Kane, who remains a free agent. Kane, the NHL's all-time leading American-born scorer, spent over 15 seasons with the Blackhawks, contributing to their Stanley Cup victories in 2010, 2013, and 2015 before being traded to the New York Rangers in 2023.

Bedard stated that he and the team would be "so excited to have a player like that, but also a guy like that." He anticipates that Kane's potential return to the United Center would generate significant energy for both the team and its fanbase. "I can't imagine his first game back at the (United Center with the Blackhawks), the reaction he'd get and how much juice that would bring to not only our team but our fans, as well. That would be incredible to play with him and learn from him," Bedard said, according to NHL.com.

Recent reports suggest Kane's decision may be narrowed down to either Chicago or the Buffalo Sabres. Former Blackhawks defenseman Chris Chelios indicated that Kane is considering these two teams.

The Blackhawks are looking to bolster their roster as they face a competitive Central Division. With Bedard scheduled to miss the start of the season following shoulder surgery, the team aims to maintain a strong position until his return. Adding an experienced offensive player like Kane could provide crucial support. Last season, Kane recorded 57 points (16 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games, a contribution that could benefit a Blackhawks team that struggled offensively, ranking second-to-last in goals for.

Chicago currently has approximately $14.31 million in projected cap space, which would likely be sufficient to accommodate a contract for Kane, who earned $3 million on a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings last season. The ultimate decision rests with Kane, who will weigh the potential for a playoff run with Buffalo against the prospect of a larger role and a full-circle return to Chicago.
