Commanders' QB Marcus Mariota Injured in London Game

Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered a right knee injury during the team's game against the Indianapolis Colts in London on Sunday. The injury occurred on a sack by Colts defensive lineman Laiatu Latu.

Mariota was initially deemed questionable to return, but his absence extended through halftime, raising concerns about the severity of the injury. Medical expert Dr. David Chao, a former chief doctor for the San Diego Chargers, suggested the injury could be to Mariota's MCL.

This latest injury compounds quarterback issues for the Commanders. Mariota was already filling in as the starter because the team's primary quarterback, Jayden Daniels, dislocated his left elbow on September 20th against the Dallas Cowboys. Daniels had returned to practice on a limited basis last week and was expected to be ready for Week 5.

With Mariota out, the Commanders turned to third-string quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, a rookie selected in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Kaliakmanis played collegiately at Minnesota and Rutgers before being drafted by Washington.
