Commanders Linebacker Leo Chenal Suffers Neck Injury; Jayden Daniels Also Injured
Washington faces consecutive weeks of significant player injuries, with linebacker Leo Chenal being carted off and quarterback Jayden Daniels sidelined.
Washington Commanders linebacker Leo Chenal was taken off the field on a spine board with a neck injury during Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Chenal, a key defensive player, collapsed after a tackle and received immediate attention from medical personnel. As he was being carted away, Chenal gave a fist pump and waved, indicating movement in his extremities.
The injury occurred while Chenal was attempting to tackle Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson. According to reports, Chenal led with his head and tucked his chin, a tackling form that may have contributed to the neck compression.
This marks the second consecutive week the Commanders have experienced a significant player injury. Last week, quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a serious elbow dislocation, requiring him to be carted off the field as well. Daniels' injury, though serious, is not expected to require surgery and he is projected to return within a month.
Despite the recent injuries, the Commanders were leading the Seahawks 24-10 well into the second half of Sunday's game. Marcus Mariota, filling in for the injured Daniels, had thrown three touchdown passes. Coach Dan Quinn was visibly concerned on the sideline during Chenal's injury, a sentiment understandable given the team's recent injury struggles.
