Colts Superstar Jonathan Taylor Reportedly a Trade Target After GM Firing
Several NFL teams are reportedly interested in acquiring the star running back following the dismissal of general manager Chris Ballard.
Multiple NFL teams have expressed interest in trading for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, according to reports. Taylor, who has been a standout player for the Colts, faces an uncertain future with the team after the recent firing of general manager Chris Ballard.
Ballard was dismissed after the Colts suffered a loss to the Tennessee Titans, bringing their season record to 2-4. The team has struggled, and the loss was met with fan dissatisfaction, including chants calling for Ballard's firing.
This development has raised questions about the Colts' direction and potential moves before the November 10 trade deadline. ESPN reports that several NFL franchises are considering a trade for Taylor, who leads active players in yards per game.
Despite the speculation, Taylor, who signed a three-year, $44 million contract extension in August, stated he has not considered his future with the team. "That'd be crazy right now, especially because we've got a great Minnesota Vikings team that we have to go against [on Sunday]," he told ESPN. "I think it would be a discredit and a disservice to my teammates and this whole organization to think about what could, what should, what may be."
Taylor has played his entire NFL career with the Colts since being drafted by Ballard in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has accumulated 8,090 rushing yards over his career, second only to Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens. This season, Taylor has recorded 492 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
Tenure of General Manager Chris Ballard
Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen were already under pressure entering the 2026 season following a disappointing finish to the previous year, which saw the Colts lose seven consecutive games and fall out of playoff contention. Ballard had been the Colts' general manager for 10 seasons, with a record of 72-82-1 and one playoff win in 2018. The team has not reached the postseason in five years.
