Colts Enter Trade Talks for Star Running Back Jonathan Taylor
Multiple NFL teams have contacted the Indianapolis Colts regarding the availability of their All-Pro running back, Jonathan Taylor.
Trade talks surrounding Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor are reportedly active and ongoing, with multiple teams reaching out to the franchise about acquiring the star player. The Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and Seattle Seahawks are among the teams that have contacted the Colts, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network.
The Colts appear to be in a "fire sale" mode as the NFL trade deadline approaches on November 10. This follows the recent trade of their All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks and the reported trade of defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the San Francisco 49ers. Wide receiver Josh Downs has also reportedly requested a trade, though the Colts wish to keep him if possible.
Jonathan Taylor, who signed a contract extension earlier this season, has expressed a desire to remain with the Colts. However, he acknowledges that the decision is out of his control. The franchise, currently 2-5 in the AFC South, is looking to accumulate draft picks as part of a rebuild. Reports indicate that an offer for Taylor has included a second-round draft pick with additional compensation.
Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon reportedly met with Taylor this week to discuss his future with the team. While Irsay-Gordon is believed to want Taylor as part of the team's rebuilding efforts, the Colts are aware of the significant return the running back could command in a trade.
Taylor, 27, has been a prominent player in the league, rushing for over 1,100 yards in four of his six NFL seasons. He is on pace for another strong statistical year, having recorded 587 rushing yards and eight touchdowns through seven games this season.
When asked about the trade rumors, Taylor stated that he had not heard anything concrete and could not control such possibilities. He expressed pride in playing for the Colts but acknowledged that circumstances can change.
Head coach Shane Steichen indicated that the team is focused on the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, while acknowledging the business nature of the NFL. The Colts have already acquired future draft picks from the trades of Nelson and Buckner. The team's current draft capital situation includes a notable lack of a first-round pick in 2027, which is owned by the New York Jets.
