Colorado Buffaloes Quarterback Julian Lewis Recovering After Medical Emergency

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Julian Lewis is recovering following a medical emergency that occurred at the team's facility on Wednesday. Lewis was transported to a hospital, according to a statement from his father.

"He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support," T. Carlton Lewis wrote on X. "Please respect Julian and the Lewis family’s privacy. We will have no further comment at this time."

Colorado Athletics confirmed Lewis's situation, stating, "Colorado Athletics extends our full support to JuJu and his family through this medical emergency. He remains in the thoughts of every CU player, coach, and staff member and we will continue to assist in any way we can in his full recovery. His health and well-being remain our top priority during this time."

The sophomore quarterback began the season as the Buffaloes' starting quarterback. Head coach Deion Sanders made the decision to replace Lewis after four games, with junior Isaac Wilson taking over the position. The Buffaloes have gone 0-3 since Wilson became the starter, bringing their overall record to 2-5 and 0-4 in conference play.

In his four starts this season, Lewis passed for 733 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions. His last appearance was on September 26 in a loss to the Baylor Bears.

Earlier in the week, Sanders addressed questions about potentially returning Lewis to the starting role. "That’s on him," Sanders said, according to BuffsTV. "I don’t think you could find a player in this program — or you may could find some bitter players that have left and didn’t want to leave, but life is what it is — but I don’t treat people unfairly. I don’t play games with young men and their careers and hate on folks.

"If I’m anything, I’m too forgiving and very, very kind. …You’ve got to always understand that we may know a little more than you do, because we’re inside the locker room. We’re there. We understand what happens."
