Colorado Buffaloes Coach Deion Sanders Dismisses Multiple Players for 'Detrimental Conduct'

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has dismissed an unspecified number of players from the team due to "detrimental conduct." Sanders, a two-time Super Bowl champion, stated on Tuesday that the decisions were based on a pattern of behavior that negatively impacts the team, rather than a single incident. He indicated that this approach is a departure from previous seasons, where issues were allowed to linger, ultimately leading to the team's struggles.

"It's never one thing," Sanders explained. "Those guys will tell you: I'm the most loving, giving and forgiving man you can ever meet. But when you start being conduct detrimental to the team that will set us back in things that you're doing - you don´t care about the team. You care about you. I have a problem with that."

Sanders referenced the previous season, during which the team finished with a 3-9 record. "A year ago, I didn't put my foot down in it enough. It lingered a little bit. Then, it imploded. I'm not doing that. I'm not doing that anymore," he stated.

One player, defensive back Ben Finneseth, addressed reporters before Sanders and apologized for remarks made in a video that surfaced on social media. In the video, Finneseth could be heard criticizing the opposing stadium before a recent game. "It was childish. It was a stupid thing that I said. It won't happen again, and the way I handled it was horrible. I promise you guys that it will not happen again, and it will be much more mature moving forward. So I apologize," Finneseth said.

Sanders expressed his frustration following the team's 41-7 loss to Northwestern, acknowledging that some players' reactions to the defeat were inappropriate. "I don't understand how you can have joy in a loss, especially when I'm upset and I'm walking right behind you," he said. "I don't push the buck and push the blame on anyone else. It's on me. We want to win the right way, and we want to do what's right. But the whole thing is about winning."

The Buffaloes are working to improve their performance, particularly in terms of discipline. The team has accumulated 28 penalties for 247 yards this season, a statistic that deeply frustrates Sanders, especially considering the team's discipline in practice. "Then when you get out from the field and you're undisciplined, I don't understand. It's hard to fathom. We're challenging them to be who they say they want to be."

Linebacker Tyler Martinez acknowledged the difficulty of seeing teammates dismissed but underscored the team-first mentality. "It's hard to see somebody go. Like Coach Prime said, it's about the team. If you're about yourself, got to do what's best for us," Martinez said.

Sanders noted that team leaders have proactively approached him to discuss strategies for preventing further dismissals and maintaining team discipline.
