College Football Player Injured Further by Medical Cart Mishap
A clumsy staffer's maneuver exacerbated an existing injury for Cincinnati defensive tackle Josh Hough.
Cincinnati Bearcats defensive tackle Josh Hough sustained a concerning setback during Saturday's Big 12 road game against West Virginia when a medical cart, intended to assist him off the field, appeared to worsen an existing ankle injury. The incident occurred in the second quarter at Milan Puskar Stadium.
Hough had gone down with an apparent left ankle issue, prompting the training staff to bring out a medical cart. As Hough was being placed on the cart, the staff member operating it attempted to back up, but misjudged the space. Hough's outstretched left leg and foot became trapped between the moving cart and the stadium wall.
Video footage showed Hough recoiling in pain as commentators on the TNT Sports broadcast noted the apparent additional harm caused by the mishap. Sideline reporter Jared Greenberg stated that the cart "backed him into the wall, which may have potentially caused him more pain."
The incident quickly drew criticism on social media from fans observing the driver's handling of the cart.
Following the incident, the Bearcats medical staff ruled Hough out for the remainder of the game. The loss of Hough, who had recorded 15 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks in the team's first five games, represents a significant blow to Cincinnati's defensive efforts as they continue their conference schedule.
