Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula have secured their places in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, setting up an all-American showdown on Tuesday morning. Both players rallied to win their respective fourth-round matches on Sunday.

For Gauff, this marks a significant achievement as it’s the first time she has reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, the only Grand Slam tournament where she had not previously advanced this far. The 15-year-old Gauff first gained attention at Wimbledon in 2019 when, as a qualifier, she defeated Venus Williams in the first round and went on to reach the fourth round.

"Super happy to be in the quarters, finally," Gauff said after her match. "I’m definitely hungry for more. But it’s a great accomplishment."

Pegula enters the quarterfinal match having come back from a set down to defeat fellow American Iva Jovic in their fourth-round match. This upcoming match between Gauff and Pegula is the first all-American ladies’ Wimbledon match featuring two top-ten seeds since Serena and Venus Williams met in the 2009 final.

Pegula has a strong record against American opponents, winning 34 of her last 37 matches against them since October 2023. Two of her losses in that span were to Gauff, who she occasionally partners with in doubles.

Jessica Pegula celebrates her victory at Wimbledon.

Gauff anticipates a familiar challenge in her upcoming match. "It will be the third flat hitter I’ve played in a row," she said. "The last two matches I’ve had definitely gave me prep for her."

This year's Wimbledon ladies' singles draw is guaranteed to produce a first-time champion, as previous top contenders including Barbora Krejcikova, Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Serena Williams have been eliminated from the tournament.
