The Los Angeles Clippers have held "real conversations" regarding a trade that would send Kawhi Leonard back to the Toronto Raptors, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported. This potential reunion comes as the Clippers navigate Leonard's contract situation heading into the final year of his deal.

Leonard previously played for the Raptors during the 2018-2019 season, leading the franchise to its first championship and earning Finals MVP honors. He then signed with the Clippers in the 2019 offseason.

If a trade were to materialize, reports suggest the Raptors would be more inclined to pursue forward Brandon Ingram over RJ Barrett. Ingram, who has familiarity with the Los Angeles area from his time with the Lakers, is coming off his second career All-Star season, averaging 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Barrett, a former third overall pick, averaged 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists last season.

Leonard is set to earn $50.3 million in the upcoming season, the final year of his contract. Ingram is currently on a contract worth $40 million next season, with a player option for $41.9 million the following year.

Recent reporting indicated that the Clippers might explore trading Leonard this offseason if an contract extension agreement cannot be reached. Additionally, the Golden State Warriors have reportedly maintained interest in acquiring Leonard, which could potentially escalate the asking price for the Clippers should a bidding war emerge for the two-time Finals MVP.
