Christian McCaffrey Exits Falcons Game with Thigh Injury
The 49ers' star running back was deemed questionable to return after being tended to in the medical tent.
San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey exited Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons in the second quarter with a thigh injury. He was deemed questionable to return after receiving treatment in the medical tent.
McCaffrey sustained the injury early in the second quarter. He had been a focal point of the 49ers' offense in the early stages of the game, handling a significant workload. Prior to his exit, he accumulated 74 yards and scored a touchdown on four carries and three receptions.
He was observed using a massage gun on his thigh between plays before heading to the injury tent. McCaffrey's absence further depletes the 49ers' offensive playmakers, with several wide receivers already sidelined.
Without key receivers like Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel, McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle had become crucial targets for quarterback Brock Purdy. As the second quarter progressed, none of the 49ers' active wideouts had recorded a target or a catch.
Despite McCaffrey's injury, the 49ers managed to establish an early 14-9 lead. This was partly due to a 30-yard touchdown run by Kaelon Black while McCaffrey was off the field.
