Chris Smalling Signs With Porto
The former Manchester United and England defender joins the Portuguese league leaders on a contract through the end of the season.
Chris Smalling, the former Manchester United and England defender, has signed with Portuguese league leaders Porto. He had been without a club since departing Al-Fayha of the Saudi Pro League in the summer.
Smalling, 36, agreed to a contract that runs until the end of the current season, with an option for an additional year. Porto currently leads their league with a perfect record of seven wins in seven games, holding a five-point advantage over second-placed Benfica. The team recently lost their opening Champions League match at home against Manchester City.
Smalling's career began at non-league Maidstone and spans 19 professional years. He previously played for Fulham, Manchester United, where he secured five major trophies including two Premier League titles, and Roma. With Roma, he won the UEFA Conference League under Jose Mourinho in 2022. He also earned 31 caps for the England national team.
