Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen sustained a shin bruise during a special teams drill at training camp on Saturday, after a collision with teammate Kaiir Elam. Initial tests indicated no broken bones or tears.

Allen, who has been a standout during camp, was participating in a pooch punt drill when the incident occurred. He was helped onto a cart and left the field. Special teams coordinator Dave Toub noted Allen's strong performance on offense and special teams, where he has been working as a gunner and returner.

"Anytime you have a rookie, everybody is on special teams until they aren't, until they establish themselves, whether it's a starter on offense or defense," Toub said.

Allen was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the NFL draft and had emerged as a frequent target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes in practice. He has led the team's wide receivers in catches during 11-on-11 periods.

Fellow Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy also experienced an injury scare during practice. Worthy went down after hauling in a deep pass, landing on his shoulder. He has a history of shoulder issues, having injured his right shoulder last season and later undergoing an offseason procedure.
