Chiefs, 49ers and Vikings Remain Undefeated After NFL Week 4
Three teams maintain perfect records as other contenders suffer losses and injuries mount.
The Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, and Minnesota Vikings are the sole remaining undefeated teams in the NFL after the conclusion of week four. Several other teams that started the season with 3-0 records saw their perfect starts halted.
Raiders Push Chiefs to the Limit
The Kansas City Chiefs narrowly defeated the Las Vegas Raiders, 30-27, in a game that saw multiple lead changes. The Raiders, who have shown significant improvement after a difficult previous season, held a 13-10 lead heading into the final quarter. A critical fumble on the ensuing kickoff after a Raiders score allowed the Chiefs to regain possession and ultimately secure the win. Running back Kenneth Walker was instrumental for Kansas City, scoring two touchdowns in a span of 19 seconds. He finished with 177 rushing yards on 22 carries, complemented by two touchdowns and 111 receiving yards from Tyquan Thornton.
49ers and Vikings Continue Dominance
The San Francisco 49ers also maintained their flawless record by defeating the Denver Broncos 24-14. The game was tied 3-3 until late in the third quarter before Christian McCaffrey's touchdown provided a cushion. Despite a response from the Broncos, George Kittle sealed the victory with a long touchdown reception. Quarterback Brock Purdy continues to impress, leading the league with 11 touchdown passes and having thrown only one interception while remaining without a sack through four games. The Minnesota Vikings are another surprise 4-0 team, securing a hard-fought 15-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins, with kicker Will Reichard contributing five field goals.
Maye Leads Patriots to Upset Victory
Quarterback Drake Maye guided the New England Patriots to a significant 29-26 road win against the previously undefeated Buffalo Bills. After a challenging start to the season, including being benched in the previous week, Maye delivered a strong performance, throwing for three touchdowns and 269 yards. The game-winning score came from Efton Chism's one-handed catch in the endzone, followed by an interception of Josh Allen's pass to seal the win. The Bills, who were considered Super Bowl favorites, now face a tough matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Injury Concerns for Eagles and Ravens
The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a blow before their London game, losing key players to injuries. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert were already sidelined, and star running back Saquon Barkley exited their 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams with a hamstring injury. The Rams secured the win with two late rushing touchdowns from Kyren Williams. The Baltimore Ravens also face fitness concerns, as two-time MVP Lamar Jackson was unable to finish their 24-18 victory over the Tennessee Titans due to an ankle issue.
High-Scoring Affairs and Close Contests
There were plenty of offensive fireworks across the league, including a thrilling 34-30 victory for the Dallas Cowboys over the Houston Texans. Dak Prescott led a game-winning drive that culminated in a touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, who recorded a career-high 17 receptions for 189 yards. Javonte Williams added three rushing touchdowns for the Cowboys. The New York Giants posted the week's highest score with a 36-24 win against the Arizona Cardinals, fueled by three touchdown passes from Jameis Winston.
