Chelsea Star Moises Caicedo Fined and Penalized for Driving Without License or Insurance

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has been handed an eight-point penalty and a substantial fine for operating his £160,000 Audi RSQ8 without a valid driver's license or insurance. The incident occurred in April 2025 near the club's Cobham training ground in Surrey.

Caicedo, who earns an estimated £250,000 weekly and transferred from Brighton for £115 million in 2023, appeared before Crawley magistrates' court this week. The court imposed the eight penalty points and a fine totaling £1,444. This brings him closer to a driving ban, as accumulating 12 points within three years can result in a six-month suspension from driving.

The Ecuadorian international, who holds an international driving license valid for use in Britain for 12 months, has been ordered to secure the correct license and insurance for his high-performance Audi, which boasts a top speed of 155mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 3.8 seconds.

At the time of the vehicle's seizure, Chelsea described the matter as "personal." The club has reportedly missed the 24-year-old, a key player who is typically a first-choice selection when fit. Caicedo has been sidelined with a persistent calf issue this season, limiting his appearances to 14 minutes of play.

He was not selected for Ecuador's recent international matches against South Korea, Japan, and Panama to focus on his recovery. Manager Xabi Alonso indicated prior to the international break that Caicedo was nearing a return and could potentially feature in an upcoming match against Bournemouth.
