Chelsea has agreed to a £47.2 million deal to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, the club announced on deadline day. The transfer comes just hours after Chelsea agreed to sell Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for a joint-record British transfer fee of £125 million.

With less than two hours remaining before the transfer window closed, Chelsea made their move for the 22-year-old Senegalese international. The club had previously seen two offers for Camara, worth £38.5 million and £42.9 million, rejected earlier in the day. Camara is set to sign a six-year contract with an option for a one-year extension.

The urgency in securing a midfield reinforcement was heightened by injuries to key players such as Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson, even prior to Fernandez's imminent departure. In recent weeks, Chelsea has seen players like Reece James and Malo Gusto deployed in midfield roles, with Romeo Lavia available and Valentin Barco used as a substitute.

The club's pursuit of Camara was impacted by complications arising from Monaco's proposed sale of Folarin Balogun to Everton, which reportedly lowered Monaco's asking price for Camara. Manchester City's delay in finalizing their negotiations for Fernandez also contributed to Chelsea's tight timeline for acquiring a new signing.
